There are currently no power options available - Windows 10

If you reached here while searching, there are currently no power options available in your Windows and after struggling with Windows, here is the quick fix you are looking for. Well! For me, this tweak is not a fix to the problem of “There are currently no power options available” because this is a security bug and Microsoft need to fix this in their future release of Windows or Security Updates. If you found this tutorial too old, please consider to update your Windows before moving forward because at that time, there might be a Microsoft release which already fixes the issue.

 Now, Why I call this a Security Bug? The reason is, I faced this issue on number of Windows clients in my Networks and after going through all below mention solutions to this issue, I was forced to do implement solution 1 for there are currently no power options available on most of my Windows 10 machines. Further, it is also observed that after Windows Creator Update for Windows 10, which can be normally available in update history with name of feature update to windows 10, version 1703 was also root case in same cases.

Let’s start to resolve the issue, there is no power options available on Windows. There are currently no power options available issue can be seen on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 etc. but the solution below works well and tested;

Update !

Above Issue was due to a Windows 10 Feature Update. Microsoft has rollback this update. You Just need to keep updating the Windows and this issue will be resolved automatically.

Solution 1:

If your computer is a member of corporate Domain (company domain is joined) and it is being managed by some of the System Administrator/s then it will be great, if you can ask them for the help or do confirm with them if they applied some group policies, which need to be loosen to resolve there are currently no power options available issue.
  1. Click on Start > Type secpol.msc and Press Enter.
  2. Local Security Policy windows will be opened, chose Security Settings and then proceed to Local Polices.
  3. Expand Local Policies and then click on User Rights Assignments.
  4. Navigate to “Shut down the System” and double click it to open its Properties.
  5. Please make sure that you have appropriate user or group added in this section.
If the option is grayed to you, it mean this group policy required System Administrator or Administrator interaction to update it.
Windows Creator Updates Bug? You might get experience that even Administrators group is added and Domain User who is a member of the local Administrators group is facing There are currently no power options available in Windows 10. In this case, you need to either change the group policy to defaults or need to add manually appropriate groups to the group policy.

Solution 2:

  1. Click on Start > Type gpedit.msc and Press Enter.
  2. Local Group Policy Editor Window will be open, navigate to User Configuration Options.
  3. Under User Configuration Options, Expand Administrative Templates and click on Start Menu and Taskbar.
  4. Double click on Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands
  5. This policy must be setup to “Not configured” or “Disabled
  6. Click on Apply and then Press OK to Exit.
This policy will only work, if your System Administrator himself, intentionally, disabled these options. This is not a bug nor it’s an issue but it’s a matter of policy requirement by the organization. If you are Windows Home User, you can consider this solution.

Solution 3:

  1. Click on Start > Type regedit and Press Enter.
  2. Registry Editor Window will be open.
  3. Navigate to the Following Path;
    1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
  4. On the Right Panel Window, locate a DWORD (32-bit) Value labeled NoClose.
  5. Double Click it to open its Properties.
  6. Change its Value from 1 to 0 and Click on OK to exit.
  7. Clean reboot your Windows to take it effect.
This solution is most effective for Windows 10 or Windows 8 variant Home Edition. It is highly recommended to backup your Registry before editing it and if you are not in an expert, please find someone to assist you.
